Road Closures

On Sunday, August 24, 2014 some of the streets in Greater Victoria are going to be affected by up to 1,500 cyclists participating in the fourth annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria.

What will happen on Sunday August 24th?

  • Police, certified traffic control attendants and course marshals, will control cyclists and traffic flow along the route.
  • In Victoria and Oak Bay, full road closures will be in effect along the route.
  • For the rest of the route vehicle traffic is restricted to the opposite direction of the ride.
  • Expect minor traffic delays throughout the region.

This event starts in downtown Victoria at 7:00am and travels 145km along the roads of Greater Victoria and finishes back in downtown Victoria at approximately 3:45pm.

The route only affects certain roads in each municipality and timing varies in each area. Please see below for detailed information about the areas near you.

Course overview and timing:

Victoria: Between 6:50am – 7:10am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Belleville St, Government St, Gorge Rd E

Saanich: Between 7:05am – 7:20am.Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Gorge Rd West.

View Royal: Between 7:10am – 7:30am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Island Hwy and Old Island Hwy.

Colwood: Between 7:20am – 8:10am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Ocean Blvd, Milburn Dr, Hatley Dr, Metchosin Rd

Metchosin: Between 7:30am – 9:20am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Metchosin Rd, Duke Rd, William Head Rd, Lombard Dr, Rocky Point Rd, Liberty Dr, La Bonne Rd, Barrow Rd, Lindholm Rd, Happy Valley Rd

Langford: Between 8:00am – 9:45am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Happy Valley Rd, Glen Lake Rd, Langford Pkwy, Jacklin Rd, Goldstream Ave, Atkins Ave.

View Royal: Between 8:20am – 10:00am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Atkins Ave and Burnside Rd W.

Saanich: 8:25am – 10:20am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Burnside RdW, Prospect Lake Rd, and MunnRd.

Highlands: 8:35am – 11:00am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Muuns Rd and Willis Point Rd.

Highlands: 8:35am – 11:00am. Northbound vehicle traffic only. Same direction as our cyclists on Millstream Lake Rd and Ross Durrance Rd.

Saanich: 9:00am – 11:20am.  Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Willis Point Rd and Wallace Dr. (Two-Way Traffic will be permitted on Willis Point Rd controlled by Traffic Control personnel to allow residents from Millstream Rd and Willis Point Rd to exit to Wallace Dr)

Central Saanich: 9:05am – 11:45am.  Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Wallace Dr, Garden Gate Dr, Benvenuto Ave, West Saanich Rd, and Old West Saanich Rd. (Two-way traffic will be permitted on West Saanich Rd)

Saanich (West of Bay Pay Hwy #17): 9:15am – 1:30pm.  Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on with two-way traffic allowed on West Saanich Rd when needed.  Cyclists travel on Old West Sannich Rd, Spartan Rd, Prospect Lake Rd, Burnside Rd, Charlton Rd, Granville Ave, Hastings St, North Rd, Interurban Rd, Hector Rd, Conway Rd,  Quayle Rd, Beaver Lake Rd, West Saanich Rd, Old West Saanich Rd, Oldfield Rd, Doyle Rd, Forest Hill Rd, Elkwood Rd, Brookleigh Rd and Hamsterly Rd.

Saanich (East of Pat Bay Hwy #17): 10:00am – 2:45pm. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on. Cyclists travel on Sayward Ave, Cordova Bay Rd, Ash Rd, Grandview Dr, Ferndale Rd, Gordon Head Rd, Arbutus Rd, Queenswood Dr, Telegraph Bay Rd, Arbutus Rd, Phyllis St, Tudor Ave, Sea View Rd, Cadboro Bay Rd.  Please note that the roads on Ten Mile Point will be open to two-way traffic for residents.  Additionally, Cadboro Bay Rd, between Sinclair Rd and Beach Drive will allow two-way traffic where needed to relieve traffic build up.

Oak  Bay: 10:35am – 3:15pm. Full road closure on Beach Drive, and King George Terrace.

Victoria: 10:50am – 3:45pm. Full road closures on Crescent Rd, Hollywood Cres, Dallas Rd and watertfront perimeter of James Bay including: Erie St, St Lawrence St, Kingston St, Montreal St, Quebec St, Pendray St, and Belleville St.

Inner Harbour: 5:00am – 6:00pm. Full road closure on Belleville St between Menzies St and Government St.
